THE PHJ READING
Read these cases together.
The Japanese cases offer different routes to a private interior. Setouchi’s villas sit within a fractional-ownership access model; Kyoto’s larger suites remain part of an urban hotel. Birchwood’s retained chalet description carries a narrower warning: Elite Havens no longer offers that home for rental through its channel.
The operating category belongs beside those physical differences. Japan’s minpaku framework is one route among several, with its own operating-year limit and management roles. JNTO’s visitor entries supply a separate national perspective. Neither the room plan nor an arrivals headline resolves a particular home’s permission or current offer.
Elite Havens retains extensive descriptions of the Niseko home, alongside a notice that it is no longer available to rent through the company. The distinction belongs in any useful archive.

BIG’s completed Japanese project connects topography, private space and a fractional-ownership hospitality model. The architecture and the route to staying there need separate descriptions.
The 2024 opening joined an urban hotel to a structured service offer. Its suites are private accommodation within a shared property, and wellness claims need their own evidence.
JNTO's statistics FAQ explains that visitor-arrival figures count entries into Japan and distinguishes preliminary, provisional and definitive releases. A repeat visitor can contribute more than one entry.
